It’s our job to protect the privacy of our users, and we take that very seriously. We work hard to create products that provide fantastic user experiences and believe that respecting your privacy is an important part of doing that. In this document, we’ll describe the information we collect and how it’s used and shared. By “we” or “us”, we mean our company, CarIQ Technologies Pvt. Ltd., and by “you” we refer to the users of our product “CarIQ”, which is described below.
What information does CarIQ collect?
CarIQ consists of a smart-phone app and our hardware device called the CarIQ SmartPlug, working together to provide you our service. Between CarIQ, the CarIQ SmartPlug, and our backend services, and by your interaction with CarIQ, we collect the following data (as described in more detail below):
- Information from your car’s onboard computer
- Information about the car’s operation
- Car location information when you drive
- Personally identifiable contact information (also called “Personal Data”)
- Information collected when you visit our website
If you provide us with Personal Data, please be aware that you are agreeing that it may be transferred from your location to India, where we and our service providers may be located.
Information from your car’s onboard computer
To make many of the features of CarIQ work, we collect and store information about the car into which you plug the CarIQ SmartPlug. This includes information like:
- Vehicle identification number (VIN)
- Real-time information from the car’s sensors, like the mass air flow sensor, which lets us calculate fuel efficiency.
- Diagnostic information, like diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) that explain why the check engine light came on.
We may also collect information about how the car functions that is not used in the current version of CarIQ, but which we will use to research upcoming features to the product that we think you’ll find useful. This data does not include any personally identifiable information.
Information about the car’s operation
An important part of CarIQ is the feedback it provides about your driving habits to help you save on gas and wear and tear. To do this, we collect information about how you drive, like instances of rough braking and hard acceleration, and the car’s speed. Some of this information is collected from sensors in the CarIQ SmartPlug, but we also use your car’s onboard computer to gain more insight about your driving style and use that to give you feedback.
Car location information when you drive
CarIQ remembers where you parked and displays the route you took when you drove. Trip routes help us determine the ratio of highway to city driving you do, to give you a more accurate estimate of the fuel efficiency you should expect from your car. The CarIQ app uses your smart-phone’s location services (GPS, Wi-Fi, cell tower triangulation) to record its location when you drive. We only collect location information we need to make CarIQ work.
Personal contact information
We collect Personal Data in three instances:
- When you place an order for the CarIQ SmartPlug on our website, we collect personally identifiable information like your name, e-mail address and shipping address.
- When you create a CarIQ account, we collect the provided name and email address.
Information collected when you visit our website
On our website, we use a technology called “cookies.” A cookie is a piece of information that the computer that hosts our site gives to your browser when you access the site. Our cookies help us analyze the usage of our service and website more accurately.
Cookies may also be placed by third-party analytics services that we use, such as Google Analytics. We use such tools to better understand how people who visit our site use it.
How is the information used?
Who has access to the information?
Engineers and other personnel at our company have supervised access to your information so that we can provide and maintain the quality of CarIQ and to help you if you contact us for support.
We do not share your Personal Data with third parties without your permission, except as described below:
Our company, like many businesses, sometimes hires other companies to perform certain business-related functions, like mailing information, maintaining databases and processing payments. In these cases, we only provide them with the information they need to perform their specific function.
In an ongoing effort to better understand and serve our users, we often conduct research on our customer demographics, interests, and behavior based on the Personal Data and other information provided to us. This research may be compiled and analyzed on an aggregate basis, and we may share this aggregate data with our affiliates, agents and business partners. This aggregate information does not identify you personally. We may also disclose aggregated user statistics in order to describe CarIQ to current and prospective business partners and to other third parties for other lawful purposes.
We may disclose your Personal Data (1) in the good faith belief that we must do so to protect the personal safety of users of our service or the public, or (2) if required to do so by law, but only if provided with (in our reasonable, good faith judgment) sufficient and appropriate legal process.
As we develop our business, we might sell or buy businesses or assets. In the event of a corporate sale, merger, reorganization, dissolution or similar event, Personal Data may be part of the transferred assets; in this event, you will be notified via email and/or a prominent notice on our website of any change in ownership, as well as any choices you may have regarding your Personal Data. We may also share your information with our subsidiaries and affiliates, if any.
Is the information stored securely?
We use best-in-class security systems and practices designed to protect your information and to prevent unauthorized access to the CarIQ SmartPlug. However, no Internet or other electronic transmission is ever fully secure or error free. Therefore, you should take special care in deciding what information you send to us.
Is there a way to delete my information? What choices do I have?
We store the information described above on the CarIQ SmartPlug, in the CarIQ app and in our cloud servers. To completely delete all your information, please write to us at email@example.com and ask us to delete your account.
Given how our backup systems work, your data may remain in our backups for some time after we delete it from our servers.
What if I have questions or need to update my information?
To keep your Personal Data accurate, current, and complete, please contact us at the email address below. We will take reasonable steps to update or correct Personal Data in our possession that you have previously provided. We hope this document answers all your questions.
